Saddude You need to relax man. You are doing way too much research on the internet which trust me I know from personal experience is a very bad thing to do. This website however is monitored by professionals who have years and years of experience and will provide you with the best answer. While a 6-8 week test is very good indication your don't have HIV 3 months is conclusive. I have gone through what you are going through but the main thing you can do is trust your tests, the people on this site (esp. The Drs. in the expert forum) and take my advice DO NOT SEARCH THE INTERNET! Anyone can post anything and its not worth the stress! Be safe, God Bless, and take care of yourself in the future. Hope this helps you.
I'm new here, but Lizzie Lou and Teak are very good sources. I had the same question about the 6-8 week period. They answered me that it's pretty reliable, so just to make sure, I called several 1-800 hotlines. Was told that is is incredibly rare that if you test neg at 6-8 weeks, for it to change at 3 months. I had my testing done at 2 weeks and about 6-7 weeks... about to go in for my 3 month. Still having symptoms, but they have lessened.. except for some numbness behind my right ear, a tthe tip of my skull bone.
As you can imagine I'm a little stressed and skeptical. I have read numerous articles on HIV and HSV2 in the past 12 hours. I appreciate Teak and HealthAdvisorys feedback. Thank you.
where did the 4-5 months come from?
you were told 3 times in this post that 3 months is conclusive.
I hope my chances are miniscule. It is a horrible feeling. I have a new compasion for those with HIV, that I never thought of before.
It is amazing how one stupid event can change your live.
So best case is to wait until 3 month and do another test? then do another test a month 4 or 5?
DNA tests are not diagnostic tests and the RNA has to be followed up with an antibody tests. Western Blot tests are confirmative tests and not diagnostic.
Do you agree that the probability is less since I'm negative at 6 weeks to be positive in the future? (probably a stupid question).
Will the HIV DNA/RNA test show me anything new or more accurate than the other test I took?
What about the Western Blot test?
Yes and at 8 weeks. Reason for the 3 month guidelines.
Theoretically could I have tested positive at week 6?
that is correct as while 3 months is totally conclusive a 6-8 week HIV test will give you a great indication of your status. the chances of your status changes is miniscule.
But there is very little chance that your 6 week negative will change.
3 months post exposure is when you can obtain a conclusive negative test result.
