Hello Dizzie.

I had this thick white and yellow (and still do 3 months post-exposure but it is gradually tailing off.) coating on my tongue and cheeks.  Very dry mouth and horrible taste in my mouth, especially at night and in the morning.  I was very concerned like you but I tested negative at 3 months and I am happy with this.  I am not a doctor but all I can say to you is that this was not a sign of HIV in me because I do not have it and repeated swabs of the area showed up nothing other what would normally be there.

I tried Nystatin and mouthwashes and anything else I could think of and it just seemed to come back immediately.

What worked for me was to keep hydrated, brush teeth 4 times a day (because having a dry mouth and not having enough protective saliva to fight bacteria and wash away food particles from between your teeth will promote infection and decay.  Change your toothbrush a little more often.  Get a toothbrush which has a tongue cleaning surface and use it to keep your tongue fresh and scrape away the coating gently.

For me, all of the dryness and the coating is easing gradually, but enough for me to feel much better about it.
