How worries should I be?

I met a guy in a bar about a week ago and we had sex. As he was performing anal sex on me, I felt him pull out quickly and he put another condom on. The only thing that has gone through my mind is that the condom broke and he is HIV positive. I am crippled with fear. I talked to him about it and he said the condom did not break and he is HIV negative. He also stated he will send me his test results through email when he gets back to his hometown in about a weeks time. I have texted him a few times and his story has not changed; no breakage and he is clean. It has gotten to the point where I pestered him so much that he was very blunt with me and told me he is tired of me contacting him about this and he has a good mind to just make me wait the three months for the results. I feel badly for bothering him so much, I am just lost.

I guess what I am wondering is why would someone change a condom if it didn't tear (of course I didn't ask him) and if it did tear how likely is it that someone might be lying so adamantly about being negative? I am sorry if these are silly questions, I am just so distraught. I have had to call in sick a couple of days at work as I am having the hardest time dealing with this. Thank you.

You can test 3 months post exposure to obtain your conclusive test result.

Thank you Teak. So in your opinion, judging off the details I have given you, do you think I am okay?

Not to write to much, but I was wondering, would the receptive partner feel if the condom tore? I dodn't notice anything and he is saying it didn't.

The option to test earlier is open to you with the DUO test which is very effective at 4 weeks post-exposure and around 99% accurate, you then must follow up at 12 weeks for a 100% conclusive result. All the best.

I went and got a POC test done yesterday and it was negative. My anxiety was aleviated for a bit regarding past partners, but my anxiety has shot right back in relation to this specific instance. I will test again in roughly twelve weeks.

By the way, what is a DUO test? I asked my health counsellor and she says she has never heard of it. I am in Canada. And after reading my risk, should I be incredibly concerned?

Thank you.

The option of having a DUO test might not be possible because not all clinics offer them, also any negative test result is great.Just follow the guidelines and test at the 12 week mark and you will be fine.

Get tested
There is between a 0.5 and 4percent chance that a transmission will occur through receptive intercourse.
12 weeks and a POC test will be conclusive.
8 weeks it is 98 percent conclusive.
That's assuming he is positive while most likely he is negative.

Get tested at 8 weeks to relieve yourself then again at 12 weeks

Is the 0.5-4% chance if there was no condom or condom failure? He swears up and down the condom did not break. However I did not see it so I don't know. I am just beyond paralyzed with fear. I try to go about my day, but then I think of this incident and I am useless.

Just wondering, in your opinion, would most people lie about a condom breakage? Just seems horrible that someone might.

Thanks alot.

I would just test at 6 to 8 weeks and again at 12 weeks and be done with it,the rest is neither here nor there.I wouldn't trust anyone's word when it comes to Hiv and condom failure..

Thank you. I know the rest is neither here nor there. I guess I am just looking for others to tell me I should be okay. Agreed one should never just trust another person when it comes to this, but if someone had negative results from the previous month as he does, would this be a decent marker that they are not positive, or at least probably aren't? I found out he is a 'professional' and has been doing this for a living for the last 6 years or so. I can't even begin to imagine how many people he has been with. These feelings are absolute torture.

thanks once again..well technically is there any risk even if the person giving the oral has bleeding gums and in turn is positive...?

andy please dont hijack other peoples threads with your drivel.

Emmy-on the plus side, he practiced safe sex with you. If he does that with everyone else it wont matter how many people he has had sex with, chances are he is HIV free.

Good luck when you get tested, let us know how you get on.

Hi all. Just an update. The gentleman was kind enough to meet with me. I think he can tell how distraught I am. When talking to him he assured me over and over that in his personal life and professional life he always uses condoms, and the only condom break he has experienced was 2 years ago when he was the receptive partner. He then told me after I talked with him some more that the condom did in fact break, but while it was outside of me (how this happens I have no idea). Basically where I am at now is I fully believe it broke in me and I have been infected. I havent been able to stop crying since I talked with him, and all I can think about is how I have ruined my sons life because of my selfishness. I know all I can do is wait the 3 months, but honestly I don't know if I can go that long. My chest is in a constant state of pain and I feel like I am having a heart attack (runs in my family). I can't believe how stupid I was. Anyway it seems that it has bitten me in the behind and now that's it. Please everyone, just stay safe.

I actually think I believe he is negative. He has the updated documents to prove it and states he always wears protection personally or professionally. However how can one be sure? That is the problem.

In your opinion Carlos do you think I have an incredibly high risk? If he is negative at least up until 3 months or so ago and always uses condoms?
