I need to understand what is going on with me

Hi,

I'm living the worst nightmare of my life and want an expert advice.

I was exposed with oral sex for 3 minutes at most in a woman, Just 28 hours after the exposure  I got an ulcer on my lip and 48 hours the second ulcer. My Primary care physician told me it was a cold sore and prescribes Acyclovir, what I took just 8 days after the first ulcer. I was ok feeling that the worst scenario I got HSV-2, but was told by a friend of her that she is HIV+. I was scared to death, since I had sex with my wife during the first 4 days after exposure, what I heard could be a period that I could infect her.

I throw away all razors and avoid contact with everyone until I could get that cleared. Of course I was so stressed to the point of checking my temperature every other hour. I notice that it was varying from 36.6 to 37. Celsius.

Well, exactly 3 weeks after the exposure I was diagnosed with pneumonia. I woke up in the day after and the sun light was disturbing me a lot. I notice I lost some of my vision. I had HIV-1 PCR test on Labcorp with exactly 20 days and It come out negative. It was good news, but I start with a really bad diarrhea and lost 10 pounds out of 187 in just 4 days. Could not get to sleep anymore and when I could, it last just 45 minutes. I could not drive anymore due to a lot of muscle shaking and was really tired all day long. I basically could not eat for 4 days. My doctor prescribed XANAX and SEROQUEL to alleviate the anxiety and to put me to sleep.  I had an AB test with Labcorp with 40 days and it come up negative for HIV-1/O/2, but with HSV-2 IgG 42.2, proving I got Herpes for the first time.

Since the pneumonia 4 weeks ago, I notice that I have thrush going on the back of my throat and I feel pain on my right leg groin.

All my family keeps saying it's just anxiety, All doctors says an acute infection can't be strong like that, but those are the facts I'm living since April 29. It's been almost a month.

I heard that if my immune system was somehow down by the 1st Herpes-2 and Acyclovir use, it could make me face a really bad HIV acute infection and it could delay the soro conversion.

So far I’m waiting another month and will get test again, even though my physician told me to test in 6 months.

I guess my only question here would be. Could the HSV-2 cause that?

Thanks a lot

Well it is good to know that you cannot get HIV from oral. I mean if I made a mistake sleeping with a positive person I much rather get herpes than HIV. So oral sex is safe from HIV and not so much safe for herpes. I think that is reasonable to say.

I got herpes thru oral sex. I'm just trying to inform people that, oral sex may be safe for HIV, but there's more diseases out there.

Would have oral sex with a known hiv positive? I don't think so. If I was HIV+ I would not allow anyone to give me oral sex.

Thanks

Hi All. Just want to give a feedback. It's good for others to learn from our experience. So, as a summary:
-I did have all HIV ARS symptoms (Diarrhea, lost 10 pounds, rash, yeast infection, enlarged lymph nodes, pneumonia). I was totally sure about been an HIV+.
-I just got the 6 months results and it is negative.
-What I learned from that?
-NEVER FOCUS ON SYMPTONS, BUT JUST ON TESTING. Test as much as it makes you comfortable. I had 6 tests at all;
-DOCTORS ARE NOT RELIABLE. I believe in the 6 weeks test and even more on the 3 months, but all doctors I saw kept saying about 6 months (5 on ER, 1 primary doctor and 1 infectious disease specialist). All stick with 6 months;
-The most important, don't stick with the idea that oral sex is safe. Sex is one of the most pleasures a human will experience in life, but it need to be safe.
SAFE SEX OR NO SEX AT AL!!!

I appreciate the good words and advices and scientific beliefs. I had oral sex with her, and vaginal protected sex. It's proved I contracted HSV-2 in that episode. HSV-2 AB test negative after 20 days and positive after 40 days.

The first test in 20 days was a HIV-PCR that come out negative and the 40 days test was a AB for HIV-1/O/2 that come out negative as well. It proves I'm not HIV+. Thanks God, I know how I want to believe on that.

I just don't understand why:
-There's Thrush running in the back of my throat daily;
-I have a right leg groin pain;
-I just can't keep a sleep pattern. Without taking Seroquel by 9:00 pm, I will be waked thru 3:00 am and waking up by 4:00 and 4:15 and 4:30 thru 6:30.

I had just this unprotected behavior in 6 years. I had vaginal protected intercourse, and maybe the only bad behavior was to shower an hour after that. I was so disappointed for my behavior that I run to my home to take a shower.

Again, I will be tested again in 7 weeks.

Thanks for all the replies.

There are no confirmed cases in the 30 year history of the HIV epidemic of anybody contracting HIV from cunnilingus. The presence of blood during oral sex is a theoretical risk that has never manifested in an HIV infection in the real world despite millions and millions of episodes of unprotected oral sex. Oral sex does not require HIV testing.

from the hiv experts here at medhelp:

There is no debate (among experts) about the HIV risks associated with oral sex.  The risk is so low that almost nobody who cares for HIV infected patients has ever had a patient believed to have been infected that way.  Among experts, it's a semantic issue about using terms like "no risk" and "very low risk".  There is no difference between my or Dr. Hook's use of "low risk" and other experts' "no risk".
DR. HANSFIELD

"And oral sex is basically safe sex -- completely safe with respect to HIV and although not zero risk for other STDs, the chance of infection is far lower than for unprotected vaginal or anal sex.  Please educate yourself about the real risks.  If you stick with oral sex and condom-protected vaginal or anal sex, you have no HIV worries and very little worry about other STDs. "   DR HANSFIELD

"I am sure you can find lots of people who belive that HIV is transmitted by oral sex, but you will not find scientific data to support this unrealistic concern..."   DR HOOK

"HIV is not spread by touching, masturbation, oral sex or condom protected sex."- DR. HOOK

in the public HIV Prevention forum of MedHelp, TEAK and the other moderators maintain that oral sex in all forms is a zero risk activity. Would you agree with this assessment?
I TOTALLY AGREE / DR GARCIA

Ok Guys. I heard there's a chance of contracting it. I will follow up with my doctor and will keep results posted here.

Thanks for reply.

one does NOT contract hiv through oral sex.

as teak mentioned above...your health issues are not hiv related.  work with your doctor to find the cause...it's NOT hiv.

I had oral sex with an HIV+ woman. It was confirmed by her friend. I know the chances to get HIV would be just 0.04%, but that's how I was exposed.

Thanks for your reply.

You never had an exposure. Whatever is going on with you has nothing to do with HIV.
