You should not put your girlfriend at risk ! Your single exposure is a low risk but it is a risk and you need to test for HIV 3 months after you exposure with your girlfriend (You never know what she did when you were apart) it would also be a good idea for you and your girlfriend to both go together in 3 months and test if you plan on staying together, this way there are not worries. Also if you wish you can test at 6 weeks for a good indacation of your status but follow up at the 3 month mark for a conclusive result.
Play safe, use condoms
I know I know i feel so horrible and now im freaking out! She does seem to think she may have gotten the sickness from her roommate who she moved in with 4 days ago. I havent mentioned anything to her yet. I will schedule an appointment on monday. Could the swollen lymph nodes or pain be anxiety?? Because this has been keeping me up at night quite often and is usually on my mind most of the day.
Yes the pain could be from anxiety, The other issues may be from another STI. You can ask about that in the STD forum. As for HIV the symptoms NEVER mean anything. Most people with all the ARS (HIV) Symptoms test out NEG and most that have NO Symptoms test out POS. Only way to know is to test as detailed above. It would be a good idea to tell your girlfriend and only use condoms until you are both tested and are sure of ones status
Also you said 5 weeks ago? Symptoms of HIV start 2-4 weeks after infection and last 1-2 weeks and almost always include a fever of 101+ but sometimes NO symptoms at all. Test to be sure
My girlfriend would have been exposed about 3-4 weeks ago. Im going to get tested. Im SCARED!!
