Hi there. I came down with a fever last december. It started with one swollen node in my groin, next day i had a mild fever, aching joints and very tired. I also experienced night sweats. About 2 days into the fever i got a rash on my elbows, which proceeded to spread up the back of my arms, and I had a few little spots of it on my chest and stomach. The rash was flat, none itchy and blotchy and was symettrical (the same on both sides of my body). The rash stayed for about a week and a half, and then started to fade slowly for another week or so. The fever lasted about a week in all and the night sweats stopped after bout a week and a half. During all this it was only my one node in my groin that appeared swollen, it was also tender i might add. The node went down once the fever had left.
At first i thought it may have been swine flu. But after checking the symtoms online HIV ARS soon came into the game. 4 weeks exactly before I got these symptoms id had unprotected sex with a girl.
So anyway i went to the docs, they tested me for hiv and syphilis (at my request), glandular fever and a few other things. As far as i know they didnt check me for swine flu. They told me my fever and rash could be an unknown virus. Any way my results came back negative but i still wasnt happy. Id tested negative at 5 weeks and i know the window period was still open.
For the next month or so i was very anxious and panicy and worried myself sick. I was constantly checking my nodes and felt like my glands in my neck were swollen all the time. I also experienced very sharp pains in my left ankle that would come and go for no apparent reason and then disappear. My lymph node also became lender again in my groin and was swollen for about a week.
At 15 weeks after my potential exposure i took myself down to the local hospitals sexual health clinic. I was interviewed by a male nurse there and i told him my worries. I told him the symptoms id been having and id screened highly unlikely on his scoresheet of hic contraction. He then gave me a hiv, hepatitis, syphilis and common sti's test.
5 days later i got the results back, HIV negative and the nurse said: "You can stop worring about HIV because whatever symptoms you've had, it was not hiv related, but you have tested positive for chlamydia"
At that point i was elated and happy and i put it all behind me. I got medication for the chlamydia and forgot about the saga. My paranoia about my nodes disappeared and the supposed swelling of them went down aswell.
About 6 weeks after my negative test i noticed white pigmentation spots on the back of my arms. These spots have now become more regular and are all down my wrists aswell. I have white skin so they are not that obvious but they definately werent there before. This worried me so i looked it up and there is no link as far as i know to this and hiv.
Its been nearly 7 months since my potential exposure now, and im experiencing a swollen throat and enlarged nodes in my neck. I find it hard to swallow and i constantly feel like someone has their hands around my throat. I have alos been experiencing floaters in my vision.
I know that some people say that you should be tested for HIV after 6 months but when you ask any docotor they say 6 is conclusive unless you are taking IV drugs or chemo, which im not and never have done.
My only other thought is maybe i have some sort of autoimmune disease that was triggered by my fever, and has resulted in vitiligo....
I suppose the main worry for me is the rash i had in the beginning... How common is it for a 25 year old male to get a rash with a fever that is hiv unrelated??? What are your thoughts, am i worrying about nothing?
