4th generation duo test

Hi All,

Could anyone please let me know 4th generation duo test using Roche technology is how much accurate in between 3 rd and 4th week?

I tested after 20 days, after an unprotected vaginal sex with a Bogota-Colombia Sex worker (first time unprotected).

Had no fever, no rash, no sore throat, but developed diarrhea for couple days at around after 16 days of possible exposure and today after 22 days i had a mild lymph node on right portion of the leg.

How often the result gets changed in case of 4th generation duo test after 4 weeks from 3rd week when my HIV indicator result on 20 days was 0.119.

Thanks.

This is going to be my last post on this forum.

I was trying to come to you people, as I am worried a hell as I am going to married next month, and before that I want to confirm that I am 100% negative from HIV.

As you all knows I was last tested after 82 days of possible exposure, still you exerts suggest me not to go for any further test for HIV right, even though I faced possible ARS symptoms from 12 weeks or so.

Please suggest can I still believe my status as fully conclusive with negative HIV test after 82 days and make my life fuly move on still if I face any sorts of similar symptoms.

Thanks a lot from a worried guy.

You don't need anymore testing...instead you need to seek professional help for your anxiety.  It's simply not normal to be still trying to convince yourself that you have HIV, or that the tests aren't accurate.

NOTHING will affect an HIV test.  You need to move on.

Hi,

I like to share some thing with you guys.

From 83 days I noticed a painless swollen area in the left thigh just above the knee area and also feeling sore throat problem from that very day. Also like to share I am addicted to tobacco and used to chew tobacco a lot.

Please could you suggest me:

1. Is chewing tobacco can be a cause for false negative HIV test?
2. What you understand regarding my symptoms? Should you recommend me for any further HIV test?

Hi,

Once again I am back with another test of 4th generation DUO.
I did it at 71 days after that encounter. The result come back negative with HIV indicator (0.16).
As I know 3 months is conclusive for standalone HIV antibody test and DUO reduces the window for about 1 or 2 weeks, Can I expect this result to be conclusive in my case as it has been a 4th generation DUO and after 10 weeks.

This is to update you:
I had a communication with Dr. Tan regarding my tests and accuracy and the conversation I am uploading:
Please have a look:

"Dr. Tan

Hi and welcome to the forum. You have done more than enough tests to be conclusive of the fact that you do not have HIV. Whether or not you choose to accept this fact is wholly up to you. There is nothing else I can say.

My Reply

Thanks doctor for your assurance. I will try not to have any more test for this. But whenever I search for the conclusive results timeline...every where recommended to follow CDC timeline. This is the problem. But thanks a ton for your help.

Dr. Tan

I really do not see that as a problem. If you choose to believe that the CDC timeline is the gold standard in HIV testing accuracy then that is what you should follow. At least that allows you to draw a clear line and convince yourself that you do not have HIV. Until that happens, you will continue to jump at every little symptom that pops up.

I am definitely go for 12 weeks test. I feel I was in healthy discussion with you and others, not disagreeing any information which has been passed here against my post. If that was the case, I never would have come for suggestion here instead I believe all the doctors very early.

But once again Teak, thanks a lot for your all valuable information.

Post testing

The need for a repeat HIV test if still within the window period after a specific exposure should be discussed. Although fourth generation tests shorten the time from exposure to seroconversion a repeat test at three months is still recommended to definitively exclude HIV infection.

Hello,
Thank you very much for your post and welcome to our forum.  I am afraid that it is going to be me answering your question, and not my colleague, Dr Sean.
It is certainly quite unfortunate that you had contracted herpes type 2 in this unprotected sexual encounter.  The negative test that you had at 8 weeks is certainly highly reassuring and a very good indication as it is possible to detect the HIV antibodies already at that stage.  However current UK guidelines still recommend to have a final test at 12 weeks for it to be considered final and fully conclusive.  Having said all that, and speaking out of my own clinical experience, I have never come across anyone testing negative at 8 weeks and then positive at 12 weeks.  Therefore I am very confident that you are HIV negative.
Best wishes,
Dr José
