Should I get PEP?

Hello everyone! I am a 23y/o living in Tampa Florida. On new years night I had unprotected sex with a girl who I now know is a current IV drug user. She claims she's never shared a syringe but I'm not taking anyone's word for it. Normally I would just wait until the 3 month mark but after the sex I noticed a small scratch on my penis, which must have been present during the sex and no doubtingly would increase the risk of exposure. I am now around the 36 hour mark, should i go to the ER and get a PEP prescription?

PEP is really only used when a person is exposed to a KNOWN HIV+ person. As you can see this is not the case. What I would do if I were you is contact the girl, ask her to take a rapid test asap if POS begain PEP within 72 hours of exposure. If NEG wait 3 months and get your conclusive test result.

Without knowing her HIV status I would say do not take the PEP

Hope this helps

He doesn't know her sex history and he doesn't know for a fact when her last unprotected sex was or when she last shared works.

He didn't do the test, the girl who possibly exposed him got the test.

Your exposure was New Years Eve and you tested four days later. HIV wouldn't show up that quick if you were recently infected. You waisted your time and money.

and why would you even say something like that?? That test was completely worth it. It put my mind at ease and according to the FDA study on rapid tests it is 99.3% accurate which Im happy with. If you not going to say anything constructive then don't post especially about something as serious as HIV take your anger elsewhere

Woah, that was pricey.
Hate to be the party pooper but she could have been in the window period. It is good that she did not have HIV but she may have had sex with others within 3 months before the test.
It is your choice whether you decide to trust her but I still recommend getting tested at 3 months.

No, you are in FL. She can get a rapid test at a hospital or clinic and have the results in 5-20 minutes.

Thanks for the quick response. I was planning on asking her to get tested. Correct me if i am wrong but, doesn't most testing take 2-3 days? if so PEP would be useless by the time we got the results.
