nPEP is normally reserved for those who had a risk with a known hiv positive person. it also needs to be started within 72 hours of exposure.
let you know if you are at risk? your condom broke...you know you had a risk.
is the risk high? you were protected until the condom broke. it's also more difficult for a man to contract hiv from a woman.
what to do about your girlfriend? hhuummmm...may have thought about that one BEFORE you did it. USE CONDOMS until you have a conclusive result at 3 months.
a duo at 4 weeks or an antibody test at 6 weeks will give you a very good indication of your status. at this point...it would be highly unlikely to change. follow up at 3 months.
I would like to hear other opinions on this situation. I am still in roatan and looked all over PEP. I also just found out this girl does sleep around. Please let me know if I am at risk or what are the chances.
Take an HIV DUO test or RNA test in 4 weeks--it will provide some comfort & then you can test at 3 months for a final test--this is not a high risk situation at all.
Since today makes it 3 days and if you really feel like you have been exposed, go to your nearest emergency room and start PEP, if you don't want to do that then wait 2 weeks and go for the HIV DNA PCR or P24 Antigen tests and you will get conclusive results.
You had sex with someone else, I am not going to give you lies to tell your GF.
What do I tell my girlfriend? Or rather what are some alternatives? I'm scarred to lose her. She will leave me...
Only way to know is to test at 3 months for a conclusive result. Exposure time...less exposure means less of a chance.
I went and talked to her again - with somone to translate she said she has only been here a year (from capital of Honduras) - and is clean and the guy was saying She's never been sick etc. although she also said to never have been tested...so at last I still worry but am somewhat at ease.
