question on testing

Hello first of all. Ill. Get straight to the question or point, if hiv test generation doesn't matter then why do the uk drs and dr hook and dr bob all say they have never seen or heard of a pos after a neg at 3 months with 3rd generation tests. This would imply that it was seen with 2nd gen tests where some would extend beyond 3 months.
If I recall correctly in ollldddd post from dr hhh which he states a dr said it could take longer than 3 if the virus doesn't break into the blood stream or some mumbo jumbo. And went on to say with modern 3rd this never happens. I know what the testing manual stipulates about the newer tests but what does the manual say about older tests. Hopefully you can help me out here cause its confusing.

I agree with you 100%, I know that in this forum you have to say 3 month, NO PROBLEM , but to help ease people's anxiety, why don't you also direct them to the expert forum as well. My comments was 'cut and pasted' from DR. EWH from the expert forum .

3 months is the guidelines to obtain a conclusive negative test result. There are NO TESTS  approved, marketed or sold that will give a conclusive negative result any earlier than 3 months.

As far as testing, you don't need it (one more time). Thus it really doesn't matter when you are tested, the results relative to the exposure you describe will be negative.  If you had been at risk, results of testing at 6-8 weeks will be reliable despite the fact that some places still recommend testing out as long as 12 weeks or even 6 months.  The recommendations for testing at 3 and even 6 months are the result of two factors- data from older tests no longer used (you really do not need to worry about which generation of tests you were tested with, at this time virtually all tests are far more sensitive that they were even 2-3 years ago when the 3 month recommendation was made) and secondly, the fact that some mostly governmental agencies which have to provide recommendations for virtually everyone without the sort of interactions such as those you get with your doctor or n-on personalized sites such as this, feel the cannot "afford" to be wrong and therefore make recommendations and guidelines which leave most people unnecessarily nervous for 4-6 weeks longer than the 6-8 weeks it takes virtually everyone to develop HIV antibodies.

I think it is time for this thread to end.  No further questions please.  EWH

Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusive negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to action by MedHelp. Conclusive negative results or a no-risk situation will be based up the criteria MedHelp’s doctors. Action will be taken as follows:
* After excessive posting, a warning will be issued by MedHelp
* Continuing to post regarding the negative result / no risk situation will result in a 3 day suspension
* Continuing to post upon your return will result in a permanent ban.

Thats beside the point, educated men with degrees and professional experience cannot agree on the window period...PERIOD.One body says this the other says that..if it was idle village talk i would not care, but these are men and women with the world health in their hands.

Another thing is that these tests look for antibodies and not the virus itself so that complicates matters even worse because our immuno-responses are different. Its not a 5x 5=25 issue lets just face it for what it is!
