If you did not have unprotected sex and have shared works then you have no reason to be concerned.

Hi confused,
No, chances are they are testing all sexually active people. If your history indicates the need for HIV testing then that may well be another reason.

Here in the US the recommendation is for all sexually active people to be tested for all STD's, including AIDS/HIV, regularly.  All pregnant women are to be tested. We can refuse any or all tests, and must sign a separate form for HIV testing in the US. However, I have had 5 tests as part of keeping up with my health over the years. Yes, the first one can be scary while waiting for results. Just try to say calm.

We cannot possibly tell you why the doctor recommended an HIV test.  Your theory about your Hep B history might be the reason.

Also, a lot of doctors are encouraging people to be tested annually if they are sexually active, just as a routine measure.

Call your doctor and ask.  If you didn't have a risk (unprotected vaginal or anal sex, or sharing IV drugs/works), then your result will be negative.

You cannot be given an HIV test without being asked. If you've never had an exposure then you have no need to take an HIV test.
