Is condom really effective?

Why we can read a lot of articles and news online state that condoms are not effective as we think. They say the fissure of  natural latex is 5000-70000nm but the diameter of HIV particle is 120nm, so ...

Also, a lot of stories and statements by HIV-infected persons online say they used condoms but got infected at last. This informations are really horrible.

I always use Durex, is this brand safe and effective???

I really can't figure out why there are so many news media publicizing the harmful informations on the Internet. Maybe they are promoted by the unscrupulous traders who claim only their so called molecular condoms can prevent STDs.

Had you read anything about natural condoms the only thing they protect against is pregnancies not STDs or HIV. Durex is a latex condom.

Latex condoms, when used consistently and correctly, are highly effective in preventing the sexual transmission of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. In addition, consistent and correct use of latex condoms reduces the risk of other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), including diseases transmitted by genital secretions, and to a lesser degree, genital ulcer diseases. Condom use may reduce the risk for genital human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and HPV-associated diseases, e.g., genital warts and cervical cancer.
Laboratory studies have demonstrated that latex condoms provide an essentially impermeable barrier to particles the size of STD pathogens.
