still shocked & confused

Recnetly went in for my annual visit but this was different because a week later the doctor called me with all lab work which for the most part was excellent but doc informed me of testing possitive to elisa test but negative for western blot. I've been in a committed relationship for ten years with children's father and feel secure. But even though doctor said she had no other concerns , I was still left feeling shocked and hesterical because I still don't understand why the Elisa test came back possitive but western blot negative. Why would this infection appear to be in my blood. I was not possitive before and have had lots of blood work done this past year. How could a test be possitve if a doctor wants to assure me it's negative. I've shut down and I can't reconcile the negative western test because of the possitive elisa test. What can I do to get my nerves back on track and calm. I seriously felt like this brought on panic attacks because I don't understand why my blood appeared to be infectious. This is quite confusing but informative. Should I keep taking more test or will the elisa test always be possitive.

From my HIV "freak out," and extensive study of the tests used to identify the virus(I'm pretty much a Dr. now, lol)... I'd say everyone on here is 100% correct.  You are indeed negative.  And false positives aren't as uncommon as you may think, so relax.  And yes Western Blot trumps the Elisa.

My strong recommendation is for you NOT to worry about this any longer, because the end result of chronic stress/worry might not be as simple.

a western blot TRUMPS the elisa...which obviously you had a false postivie on.  it is not all that unusual for this to happen.

YOU DO NOT HAVE HIV :) :) :)

Hello
Just relax. Why?

1) There is Sumthing calld FASE POSITIVE.... which was in ur case (unfortunately...as it breaks one mentally)
2) the WESTERN BLOT was negative..THATS THE MOTHER of ALL TESTS....No matter what test turns out positive IF U TEST WITH A WESTERN BLOT AND THTS NEGATIVE THEN ITS "NEGATIVE"
3)Do Not worry... even ur doctor has assured u .... HE IS A DOCTOR...MORE qualified that U n ME...

4)if u remain worried have another hiv test today or tomorrow and get to know urself that UR NEGATIVE...(thats "IF" you cant believe the western blot results)

5)DUNT WORRY... i know its easy but then ONLY the person who is facing such traumas can understand the best.... all i can tell u is just relax and calm down friend!

even i am a Worried well and i am due for testing today.... u may read my post under urs
