stupid one night stand

Dear Doctor Hunter,
I am a healthy, heterosexual 24 year old male from Canada that is currently in University. About 8 weeks ago I met a 19 year old girl who went to a near by College at a local campus bar. After both drinking alot we engaged in unprotected vaginal sex (the first time i ever had unprotected vaginal sex) that lasted about 1 min. After she thought a condom was stuck inside her. I realized that we did not use a condom. She told me that the last time she had sex was 2 months prior ( I assumed she used a condom because she was complaining that something was still stuck inside her and she said it obviously couldnt be a condom for 2 months ago). This is highly embarassing but we realized that she had a tampon inside her. She later went to the washroom and told me that she was pretty sure we didnt have sex since she couldnt find any of my fluids in her. We had sex in the morning again but it literally lasted only a few seconds. After that I never heard from her again. I have tried contacting her but with no luck. Im assuming it is an experience that both embarassed us.

My question is, is this a high risk of getting HIV since I dont know her status? What is the risk of HIV among college, universitity students? The next day I felt sick to my stomach because of the guilt and fear. After that I started to check early signs of HIV on the internet. I didnt have a fever, rash, swollen glands, vomiting, etc. Actually I felt completly healthy and normal except for the fact that a few days after the inncident I did have a very minor sore throat for about 2 days and it was soon followed by coughing, sneezing and sinuses for only a day. I had on and off diarrhea but I have had a long history of having that well before (IBS).

I am just really worried. My school work kept me busy and I honestly felt well enough to attend classes, etc. Now that I finished my classes for the winter break Iv become extremly paranoid. I have so much free time now and all I think about is about is the possibility of having HIV and blaming myself for what I did. Friends and family have told me to calm down and told me experiences like these in college do happen. Nevertheless this experience has taught me that I will NEVER have unprotected sex again. Im really sorry if I have wasted your time. I just dont know if this is vaild for concern of HIV or if I should just get on with my life. Thank you very much.

Sincerely,
collgege guy concerned

Dr's do not answer question shere, you have to pay and post in the expert forum.

We don't judge high risk or low risk, we just judge risk here. Test at 6-8 weeks for a good indication and 3 months for a conclusive result.
