Don't post again until you get your conclusive test result. We can't add anymore than what has been said already. Get your 3 month conclusive test and be done with it.

Again numbers don't mean a thing. The answers to a risk rely on the testing.

FYI-- a great educational video on HIV transmission by Dr. Becky MD. I think this answers most of the questions commonly asked!

OK, I understand this, and I am not going to argue with you because your knowledge in this subject is a lot more than mine...and many others here-- but my question is again: why do we have so conflicting info from different sources? I am not sure if there is any other disease where you have to wait that long just to be diagnosed. I also understand that this is a relatively new disease-- but still....

BTW, what kind of tests are done to make sure donor's blood is not HIV infected? what if the donor is still in the Window period???

Take a look at the PCR test details that I took:

The Early HIV-1 Proviral Test
Another way to test for HIV infection, other then looking for antibodies, is to look for the genetic material (DNA/RNA) of the HIV virus itself in a blood sample. One such test is the HIV Proviral DNA test, which uses a complex technique called PCR to detect the virus. This test detects the presence of HIV-1 as early as 10 days following infection and does so with a sensitivity of around 96 to 99%. Because of the complexity of this test, a result is not usually available for 5 to 7 working days.

Now, the doctor in London said that based on my exposure (one time, hetrosexual) I wouldn't need a follow up test.....
Do you think I should get follow up tests then? I will take them anyways-- because with so many people telling different things-- I can't relay on one. I will do my due-diligence-- and after that if I still fall into that rare category of False Negative-- then I will accept it.

Your doctor can't change the approval to a test. He's not the mfg or the FDA and that is totally incorrect. PCR-RNA is approved to be used in conjunction with an antibody test. PCR-Dna are not approved for diagnostic use period.

They won't do PEP on you unless they consider you high risk, which you obviously are NOT.
I strongly suggest getting  confirmatory tests-- like PCR and others to calm yourself down and be close to 99% sure that you are OK. Also see a specialist doctor if you can. And do get yourself checked for other STDs which are more common and easily transmittable.
Your symptoms could be because of something else-- like stress? Hang in there....
And to be honest, if you have it then...this is not end of the world. May be this is how it is meant to be.

People with HIV live normal lives...and I have a lot of respect for them now...

now i know it was a bad idea not taking the PEP, i ask the doctor in the Hospital 1 Day after the Misstake is happen he says no to PEP.

No i think it was one of the biggest Failure

The probability of male getting HIV from female from a vaginal intercourse is 1 out of 2000 (per Dr. HHH in this forum). I took a conservative number (1 out 1000)-- which my doctor gave today. Note that if you are uncircumcised, the probability of getting HIV is roughly double.

I am NOT an expert-- actually I didn't know anything about HIV until 14 days ago-- but this is what most of the doctors seems to agree on.

Forgot to add: the doctor even told me that I don't need to do 28 day or 3 mnth testing if my PCR test comes out negative.
However, if its positive then .....they would need further confirmation testing

Why is there so much conflicting information about HIV testing out there?

I went to the GUM clinic first- they said their test is only after 3 months, but they did tell me that if I am interested in knowing earlier than go to a pvt lab for PCR and DuO.
The pvt. doctor said, PCR has a 99% accuracy of diagnosing HIV at 10+ days...and that porn industry in California uses that test to check for infections in actors.
he said that the DUO at 28 days is 95% accurate. And that 3 month WIndow is an hang-over from testing in 80s and 90s...

It is really confusing for a person who doesn't much about HIV-- as to where to go for what tests etc. So I am gonna get all of em. But I think there should be a reasonable guideline....
If I understand right, FDA only approved 3 month test-- but if PCR looks for HIV viral load in blood, and if you are recently infected then, in theory, it should detect it...because VL is pretty high from 10-16 days post infection.

What do you think?

Are the probabilities stupid_717 talking about somehow correct?  From what I understand from Serge1975, duration doesn't matter (even if seconds)?  Does the no ejaculation decrease the probabilities?

PCR test are not approved to be used for diagnostic use. They are monitoring tests for people with HIV.

Since you are going totally insane- i would suggest getting an early PCR test from a reputed lab in Zurich. I got mine done today- results won't be out for 7 days....but thats OK....at least I would know one way or the other...
The doctor said the reliability of the PCR tests depend largely on the labs- so make sure you check the lab before getting it.
Then I am gonna do a 28 day DUO test, a 6 week test and finally one at 3 months...to be sure. Provided I get negative on all :)

You should be fine though.

I was so paranoid that I went to a private doctor today- he told me that symptoms don't mean anything at this stage (I developed mouth ulcers and soar throat)

The probability of you getting HIV from unprotected vaginal sex is 1 in 1000, assuming your partner was positive.
If we assume 5% HIV+ rate for her to be +ve....that means your chances are 1 in 20,000....
Have you even won a lottery? if not, then you are safe:)

Stop examining yourself....I bet that "spot" has been there forever, you just never had a reason to look before.

Your results thus far are very encouraging.  Collect your conclusive result at 3 months......in the meantime, seek some help with the anxiety.

You are worried about telling your family?  Don't put the cart before the horse...very likely you dodged a bullet this time.

It maybe there but it means nothing at this point. people get things all the time and you can't diagnosis based on symptoms.
At this point I urge you to stop looking for symptoms and just report back after you have your test results.

stop looking for things in the mirror and trying to diagnose yourself.  we all have white spots in and around our mouths and throats.

look in the top right hand corner of this page and read about hiv anxiety and just anxiety in general.  read the posts here...find some from ppl who have come back to tell of ALL symptoms they had...but tested negative.

i know that you had unprotected sex...but if you continue to check your body every 15 minutes and search the internet for signs and symptoms...youre going to drive yourself insane.

test at the appropriate time and let us know the outcome.

One piece of advice is to stop looking and stop checking everything. This is leading down a bad road that is going to consume you. Until the 3 month mark you need to live your life and try your best to put this out of your mind.
