Thanks Teak and Lizzie! That doctor has a tendency to blow everything out of proportion.
In this case, after reading so many posts by worried people and how you guys have proven your educated risk assessment and advice, I will take your words and move on with my life and find a new doctor. I did a routine blood work in August and I was clear across the board. So I will wait some time and do another routine test. But for now, I will breath easy.
Please stay well you guys!!!
Then not only is your doctor uneducated in HIV, if she said she seen people contract hiv with protected sex is totally a lie. You didn't have a risk and you don't need testing. Find a new doctor that is educated in HIV if you ever have a risk.
sorry i admit i have gone paranoid because believe me or not my primary care doctor says any sexual activity is a risk for HIV and she also told me that she has seen a number of cases where her patients got infected even with condom protected sex. she gave me a pamphlet that supported her claims - mainly saying that if you had sex with an anonymous person, get tested but she told me to wait and literally quarantine my self from any sexual activity for three months or so. Who is overreacting, me or her? Am I really at such a high risk? most of the informed people here tend to think that HIV is really hard to acquire let alone with a condom but my doctor would disagree adamantly. I am too scared to do anything, would not even call my GF. This is ruining me.
you had condom protected sex and were never at risk.
hiv is transmitted through...
unprotected vaginal/anal intercourse
sharing iv drug works
mother to child
it is not spread by fluids "touching" other parts of your body.
testing is not warranted for the situation that you have described above.
