Difference between Atorvastin 10 mg and simvastatin 10 mg

I have been taking Atorvastin calcium 10 mg tablets(Brand Name is Storvas 10 mg)  since 3 months for bringing LDL under control. Please advise if simvastatin 10 mg(brand name : Zosta -10) also has the same effect as Storvas 10 mg. I have had cholecystectomy about 5 years back.

I do not believe that different statins have the same effect. In one huge survey, atorvastatin came out on top with the least side effects. Here is some info regarding your question which I found on the internet.....

Atorvastatin 10mg reduced LDL by 30-40%  = equivalent to  20mg Simvastatin
Atorvastatin 40mg reduced LDL by 46-50%  = equivalent to  80mg Simvastatin

Starting doses for each of the two statins are ....

Atorvastatin 10mg
Simvastatin 20mg unless hyperthyroid or asian older than 65 then 5-10 mg

Optimal time to take medication

Atorvastatin = anytime
Simvastatin = evening

I hope this helps
