I have just got out of hospital after a v tach storm and they said my stents have collapsed and behind the heart muscle was dead and bypass or angio would not help due to the dead tissue. I left the hospital after a month and a ICD implanted defibrillator. They say I have a 15-20% ejection fraction. It has been about three weeks and I still cannot walk to the mailbox and back. Will I get better? I am totally watching salt and lifestyle changes. I cannot seem to get a ballpark figure on how long I have to live or will I get better at least to where I was before hospitalization which was about 100 yards before rest.....Help...

I was recently diagnosed with CHF and cardiomyopathy. My EF was 15% and I was not expected to live. My EF is now around 35% (after 6 weeks) so it would appear that my heart is trying to heal. I also have a blood clot in my heart. I can relate to all of the comments and appreciate the folks who gave feeedback.

Smoking and heavy drinking is not good for anyone but particularly not helpful for someone with CHF.  Improving his ejection fraction is something he needs to discuss with his cardiologist. I know of people that have improved their EF but it usually takes a combination of medications and lifestyle changes to gradually bring it up. His EF will probably never be normal again but it might be improved.
