General question about heart attacks

I was just reading an article on WebMD regarding symptoms you should never ignore. Ok, we all know the classic heart attack symptoms...but the article I just read also listed some not so common. Dizzy...feeling very weak...nausea..vomiting...cold sweat.... I knew most of these..but ...what I am wondering...how on earth would a person differentiate that between, say, a regular old bout with the dreaded "stomach flu"...? Im sure weve all had that...and I think every one of the symtoms I just listed are classic stomach flu symptoms as well. Now that Ive read that article...my gosh..the next time I get the 24 hour stomach flu bug...Im going to be really scared! Anyone have any thoughts about that?

When my mother would get heart attacks her only symptoms was out of breath.  Her brother had what he thought was a flu for a couple of weeks, and then had a sudden fatal heart attack at the age of 31.  He died of severe coronary artery disease per autopsy.  I, too, get chest pains and find now that if I take a 81mg low dose aspirin a day it really helps eliminate the chest pains.  I have been getting chest pains for 9 years and have had the usual of heart tests and nothing was found.  If a person is very sick to be on the safe side should go to the doctor and a EKG usually will indicate if there is something wrong with the heart.   I know last year I was so sick for five days with a flu and had a high fever all those days and did not see the doctor.  Another scary thing is when the viruses go to the heart or brain.  I am always worried about that when the children get sick.  Best thing to do is to take good care of yourself when sick and if there is any indication of not getting better to see a doctor just in case.
