Heart Races for a while after Exercise

Hi.  I recently decided to get back into shape so I enrolled in a dance class with my best friend.  The class meets once a week.  My best friend and I get together to practice at least two more days in the week for about half an hour.  I just began doing sit-ups,  stretches,  and a bit of running around (running with my children).  I do not have any shortness of breath but I notice that whenever I do exercise my heart seems to race afterwards for nearly half an hour while I am resting.  The pounding is rather frightening.  Should I be concerned?  I also feel fatigued,  sometimes light headed (although rarely).

Is this normal for a woman in her late 20's who is out of shape? *

*I have had an EKG and heart monitor which came out fine.

Generally, and does not rule out a cardivascular problem but an increased resting heart rate often remains after a new and markedly demanding exercise regimen is first begun. Sometimes it is due to some residual dehydration (you must be certain to keep yourself hydrated, by drinking plenty of water before, during and after these workouts); it also can sometimes be an autonomic reflex triggered by the stress of the new exercise.

Hope this helps, and monitor your heart rate as you continue to exercise!
