Heart Skipping Beats

I have noticed in the last  couple days that my heart skips a beat about every 80 beats per minute--sometimes it can be a few more beats than that.  Is this something to worry about?  I felt this way before and wore a halter monitor and the doctor said that there were a couple instances but it was nothing to worry about.  If it's not, then good--but was just wondering if that was a lot of skipped beats.

You're not a hypochondriac at all. When it comes to our hearts, anything odd is a concern. We can't live without the heart so we have to be careful.

Thank you--that does make me feel better.  I hate feeling like a hypochondriac but I also don't want to be too laid back about everything and miss something important :-)

I forget the percentages but when the heart "skips" thousands of times a day, then the doctors want to take a closer look at the heart. I went through a period of time (months) where my heart was skipping 15-25 times a minute. My normal is 1-5 times a minute. I asked my doctor about the change, I wore a monitor, was told it was PVC's and PAC's and sent on my way. Even at that rate the doctor wasn't concerned because he knows my heart is in good shape other than that.

Your few skips a day, even if it runs into the hundreds of times a day, is generally considered harmless. If it keeps increasing or you have other symptoms like chest pain or fainting, do call your doctor and let them know there's been a change. Most likely your heart will settle down again in a few days. I wish you well.
