I need a diagnosis!

Last week, whilst visiting Slovakia, I got up in the night to use the toilet and passed-out. My wife found me shaking and I came round after about 15 seconds. An ambulance to me to hospital and I had a resting heart rate of 145 and it was beating irregulary. After around 4 hours, the heartbeat stabalised to around 75-80 regular beats (my usual resting rate is between 65-70). The doctors initially thought I had AF but I do not usually have irregular beats. I arrived home and now have an 'electrical buzzing' like pins and needles down both arms and across my chest. It's driving me mad! A slight increase in breathing.  Ringing in my ears. My heartrate speeds up considerably when just turning over in bed. A very occassional flutter in my chest.
I collapsed once before 6 years ago with the same symptoms, taken to hospital and released. I did not have any ongoing pins and needles etc after that episode.
My doctor has refered me to a cardiologist but it seems to be taking some time to get an appointment, so in the meantime... any ideas?

Perhaps visit your local Doctor to get a 24hour holter monitor organised. This will record your heart rhythm over that time and be useful for the cardiologist anyway.

Many thanks Ed, I have a monitor fitted today and actually don't feel as bad! At least the ball is rolling now! Thanks.

Hi, many thanks for the reply. They said my blood pressure was normal at the time. I am not on any medication. They did ask me to raise both arms etc. I am feeling a firm flutter, just once, every 30 minutes or so, then my heartbeat returns to normal.  12 days after this incident, I still have pins and needles and I am still awaiting an appointment with a cardiologist here in the UK.

Did they check your blood pressure after the event? was it normal? what is it now? Are you on any kind of medication? Did they do tests on you, such as ask you to smile, raise both arms, stick your tongue out?
