Im 15 and I had had an echocardiogram today and i am diagnosed with mild mutual regurgitation...help?

Well my name is nathalya and i am 15 years old ..today i got a echocardiogram and i am diagnosed with mild mutual regurgitation ...the doctors said that it was very little so i dont have to worry about it..She told me to come back to get another echocardiogram in 5 years. But i've been reading things online about it and it said that sometimes the problem can get worse very rapid .. I'm worried about that 5 years is to long for another checkup because it can get worse without me even knowing it and have some problems in the future.. Should i still have a echocardiogram every year just in case?? it would really be helpful to know more things about it...thankyou.

I agree, this is something you really just need to forget worrying about. There are several different grades of valve issues; yours is at the absolute bottom of that list as far as being a problem goes. Most of the people on the planet are walking around with this same problem and they aren't even aware of it. Go have fun with your life! Try and stay off these boards if what you are reading scares you. The axiety from reading what is happening to some of the patients on here will also make your palpitations much worse as well.

If your echo came back ok otherwise, don't worry so much. As the previous person said, most people will have a trivial amount of mitral valve regurgitation as shown on an echo. Unless your symptoms get worse, let it go. You'll know if you need to follow up sooner.

because i feel heart palpitations..all of a sudden my heart beats very fast so they sent me to do an echo..but this wasnt my first one i had one done in 2008 so i was even younger ..in 2008 they said they heard a murmur in my heart and when they checked me they said everything was fine and that they didnt see anthing..but i got one done today and they still heard the murmur again and this time they can see what the problem was which is minor mutual regurgitation..so the problem is growing it's growing slowly but its growing so thats why im worried.

You don't need to worry, there are very few echos done that don't show some sort of regurgitation. You diagnosis probably fits 75% of the healthy people out there.

FYI, why did you have an echo at such a young age?
