Is blood pressure medicine needed.

Hi I hope you can help  I had a full medical recently and they said my blood pressure was alittle high 140/85 so come back and get it done in a couple of weeks. Again it was high I explained that I have white coat syndrome but my doctor wanted to put me on Analapril. Before taking it I but a blood pressure monitor and tested my blood pressure for two weeks at different times of day.My results ranged from 129/77 to 137/85.I went back to my Doctor and after waiting an hour surprise surprise my blood pressure went up to 145/90.I brought my machine with me and it was accurate with his.He simply dismissed my readings and said we have to cover ourselves and you should take the Analapril.Ihave no problem taking medicine if I really need it but do you think I do.I am on a diet and losing lots of wait and excersing. Please I would appreciate some advice.I am also suffering from anxiety and depression but having counselling Thankyou

Thanks for the reply I was diagnosed that's interesting you must have a good Doctor.I am changing my Surgery.i was diagnosed finally after six months wit Eustacian inner ear dysfunction basically a balance problem. At the Hospital they took my blood pressure before the test It was 136/76.It took my Doctors sixth months to believe and refer me.Today after diagnosis my BP is 126/74.I also believe the stress of the last six months and my useless Doctors contributed to my white coat syndrome.

I have the same thing but my doc lets me tell her my home readings.

Have you cut out most of the salt in your diet? Not just table salt but really watching the salt intake with everyday foods? Stay away from canned foods, cheese etc. Even cereal.

Mine was hitting 138/85 or so at the doctors office, since I stopped all of this (and I too have the white coat syndrome), my home reading is now usually 116/72 +/-.

There are monitors they can get you to wear for 24 hours which will record your blood pressure, you could ask for one of those.
