Low Ejection Fracture

I am a 54 year old male with an ejection Fracture of 25-30%. I have been on medication for the low ejection fracture for about 4-5 months now with no improvement so far.  How long should it take to see improvement of the ejection fracture while on medication? How long can someone live with this low ejection fracture? I will have an ICD put in next week. What can I do to improve my low ejection fracture?

Improvements in cardiac function vary so much that it is difficult to say.  Some people find immediate improvements with medications, others slowly improve over years, and others just stabilize where they are.  Typically, you're going to want to avoid excessive salt, alcohol, junk food, etc., and eat a healthy variety of mostly plant-based foods.  Improvement also depends on the cause of your impaired heart function.  After your ICD is placed and you heal, your cardiologist will probably approve you for and encourage appropriate exercise.  Definitely follow those guidelines.

I hope you find improvement with the medications and ICD.  Take care.

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Understand your predicament. Ejection fraction values below 35% are indicative of heart failure.

Treatment for low ejection fraction is focused on reducing symptoms and preventing the progress of the disease involved from worsening. So, the basic cause needs to be treated. Ejection fraction can be improved by lifestyle changes, medications and procedures, such as the insertion of an implantable defibrillator (ICD) if indicated. Lifestyle changes include limiting physical activity, eating a heart healthy diet, completely avoiding alcohol and/or tobacco use, practice relaxation techniques like yoga and keeping a daily weight diary to keep a tab on weight changes. Medications such as digoxin and beta blockers help to improve the pumping capacity of the heart.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
