My concerns.

I have just been diagnosed with a slight aneurysmal dilatation of the aorta. I,m going to my family Dr. tomorrow after being releised today from the hospital over night. What response should I exspect as far as how serious this is.

It depends of the location, but generally when the aorta size exceeds 4.0 cm it indicates a size that may be an aneurysm, and if,  and when it is reaches 5.0 cm there begins to be some concern for a possible dissection.  Also, a fast growing aorta (0.5 cm a year) would also be of some medical concern.

If you have been diagnosed with bicuspid aortic valve (BAV), the issue of tissue integrity is a consideration, and that may change the concern for dissection and treatment. Progressive aortic dilation in BAV seems mainly due to the fragility of the aortic wall rather than hemodynamic factors such as high blood pressure.

Hope this helps and if you have any further questions you are welcome to respond.  Thanks for you question.  Take care.
