Need to know what this means.

My dad has had congestive heart failure for the last 10 years.  In 2001 he had a quintuple bypass at 73 yrs old.  2 months ago he was admitted to the hospital for fluid retention.  He was diagnosed with CHF, coronary artery disease, hypersensitive heart disease, cardiomayopathy, artic atherosclerosis.  The dr prescribed spirolactone, omeprazole, amiodarone, furosemide, carvedilol, and lisinopril.  They released him to hospice care.  I know it means end stage CHF,  My dad has been having problems with low blood pressure (85/49), constant headache and dizziness, in which he fell the other day.  He spoke to hospice nurse and she said don't take the pills anymore except aspirin and omeprazole.  Is that the right thing to do?  He stopped taking the pills for the last 2 days, but is still getting dizzy when he gets up, constant headache (so bad that he doesn't want to do anything but rest) and is constantly tired. The hospice nurse is no help, and I live 2500 miles away.  What does all this mean?

Don't know who is charge of my dad's care.  My dad don't even know.  He asked the hospice nurse who signed him off to hospice and she says she does not know.  I think it's a bunch of crap.  She also told my dad to eat whatever he wants.  I think these people don't know what is going on.  Apparently the dr that she calls is an oncologist.  What does an oncologist know about the heart?  Doesn't make any sense.  And no, I have no other siblings.  I went to visit back in April when he got out of hospital, everything was fine.  Another issue I am facing is my parents want to make a move across the country by me, so I am in the process of finding a house for them out here.  Obviously I can't be in 2 place at once.   Very stressful situation.

I don't know what it all means because I'm not a cardiologist but I think the bottom line here is who is in charge of your father's care. When I had to put my father into hospice care, his doctor was still in charge of my father's care, the doctor and his family made all of the decisions concerning his care. Has anyone signed over his care to this hospice nurse? I think she's way out of line. Get in touch with your father's doctor and ask him what is going on. Sorry I could'nt be of more help but maybe someone else will see this and comment. Good luck with this, I know it isn't easy when you are so far away, do you have any siblings who are closer to the problem? Your father needs someone there to make decisions on his care.
