need some help - POST CABG

My mum has recently undergone a Coronary Artery bypass graft earlier in march and everything seemed to go well using the Sap vein. She is relatively young 54, healthy and fit it was purely genetics in her situation. She didnt have symtoms prior to surgery just elevated BP which was the only way it was picked up. She had 4 arterial blockages.

Recently she has been breathless walking up stairs here or there....not constantly just on the odd occassion and has also had bouts of high blood pressure last week being 200/110 when rested, where other times it has reduced. The dr did have some suggestions perhaps changing her meds.

We are very concerned and it seems that she is avoiding going to the specialist.

Is this normal at all? what could be the possible reason this is occurring. We all all freaking out and need some advice as to whther this is normal or if it really does require further investigation?.

Any advice or experiences would be fantastic.

Thanks

I had a triple cabg in september 07 and by xmas 07 the veins had completely closed up. I remember the first month I felt great. The second month I had occasional shortness of breath and found walking up hills harder. I had no chest pains or other angina symptoms. I was told it was all part of the recovery but it seemed odd why I would suddenly find things harder. Then after three months I was on my knees gasping for breath for 10 minutes. The veins closed up.
Ignore the red tape, demand a specialist and an angiogram to see what's going wrong.

Hi Jessie --- My name is Randie and I too completed a (CABx3) in May of 2009. since then I also experience much shortness of breath and fatigue.  One thing they found with me was (fluid) being retained around the heart and lungs thus making the breathing and breathlessness quite troublesome.  I am a 52 year old guy and like your mom am very concerned about this issue. If I may, I would suggest having a ECHO cardiogram so they can "VIEW" the acivity of the heart and identify any possible fluids that she might be retaining.  It is certainly a scary feeling and I relate to your valid concerns.  Also, there are many other checks that can be done to ensure the proper functionality of her heart as well as the blood-flow (to and from) this area.  I just joined this Medhelp online service today and I am excited and hopeful to find NEW friends with similar issues and maybe get some good advice and direction regarding my (ongoing) post surgery problems.

Take care of your Mom and good luck to and yours
Randie
