Stay on coreg??

I had postpartum cardiomyopathy  after the birth of my son 13 years ago.  After 8 years my heart had recoved to EF 40.  My cardiologist said that it wold probably remain at EF 40 since it had stayed there for 5 years.  I had a recent MUGA Scan and discovered my heart had continued to improve and has healed.  My EF is not 59.  (Coreg is a miracle drug in my opinion.)
My question is....now that my heart has healed, should I continue to remain taking the Coreg that I have taken for 13 years?  Would it be better to stop now?  I do continue to have high blood pressure and take Diovan and a diuretic, Spironolactone, in addtion to the Coreg.   Again, my main question is...Should I continue with Coreg?

Thanks so much for the response posts.  Sounds like you both feel stopping the Coreg is not the best idea.  Perhaps a lower dosage might be prudent.  I'll be talking with my Doc.  Thanks again to both of you.  It is awesome to be able to hear from real people who go through similar experiences.

It could be dangerous to stop the Coreg as the heart gets used to it.  Stopping beta blockers could cause heart failure.  You can talk it over with your doctor to make sure, but I am sure that he or she will wean you off slowing if that is what is decided.  Coreg, in my opinion, is one of the best beta blockers.

I'm thinking there was a slip of the fingers and your EF is now 59.  If so, that's wonderful. I agree that Coreg is a wonder drug.  I've seen an increase in my EF as well.  I was taking 50 mg daily until I developed Tachy-Brady Syndrome, so the dose was reduced to 12.5 daily and my EF dropped back into CHF numbers.  I had a pacemaker inserted and the dose was brought back up to 50mg, and my EF jumped back up to 44.

The fact you have high blood pressure would be a reason I would keep taking it, unless you have a reason to quit.  I've seen no research that long-term Coreg usage is harmful, but it sure is hard to start again after you quit, the startup symptoms for me are horrible.

Congratulations, keep us informed.  Nice success story.
