I have Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) my heart beats very rapidly for about minutes to sometimes 30 minutes . i am medications which controls the rhythm but there are times that i feel like my heart is beating very slow and at times i feel as if my heart muscles are strained because of the strenuous activities i do . I want to have a family and i was wondering if i women with my condition can have children? if yes , can you have them naturally or do you have to have a c- section or an epidural ? is it safe to take contraceptives if you have this condition. ? is it advised to take Metoprolol during pregnancy  ? can the women breast feed with this condition ?  what type of birth control method is suitable for women this condition ? is there limitation of how many children you can have ?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi, you will have to discuss all your queries with your cardiologist, as pregnancy increases the hemodynamic status. And depending on your present cardiac conditiopn, your doctor can advise you regarding pregnancy. Metoprolol use has not been advocated  in pregnancy. The slow heart rate could be a side of metoprolol also. Please discuss this with your doctor he may change the dose or the medication. Regards.
