I was on so many meds, and still am, I am never really sure if it is effects of the meds or the effects of having the heart problem that has me taking them all in the first place.  I don't know if I will EVER know that anymore.  But.. that being said... we have to try.  Godspeed.

The problem with going off of meds is that you have to taper off then, taper up on something else.  If your heartrate isn't going up now then, you need to weigh out which you want.  Like I said before it takes time for some side effects to go away-and you may not have given it enough time.    It also really makes sense that not smoking even after 6mnths would still affect your mood-it can take a long time to get over that.  The mood swings also could be the onset of something else (ie depression).  Even and anti-anxiety med that you take at the onset could help you through this.  You really should talk to your doc about this and let him know your fears and that you aren't sure going off the meds is the answer.

I take three 20mgs pills a day so 60mgs a day.I am on this pill because my heart rate would go up to 160bpm in less than 10seconds causing me to pass out.The doctor told me to stop smoking and put me in the hospital for 10 days.I seem to have mood swings for the past month, could this be due to not smoking after 6 months all ready....or is it these pills....or just stress?I am 32 yrs old and scared to ask the doctor to change or take me off these pills as a fear of passing out or having my heart feel like it will come threw my chest, these pills make me feel like they are my life line.My co-workers,children,and bf suffer from these mood swings....I really need to figure out what is causing it.I keep going back to these beta blockers thinking it must be these....I never had mood swings b4 not even when I was pregnant.

I don't necessarily mean to stop without any guidance.  If the propranolol doesn't work for someone, it will feel better to be on something else or maybe nothing rather than have ill effects of the medication.  I have taken so much propranolol over the last 15 years, I just call it Pez because it seems to have that much effect anymore.  I have no side effects from it either but should talk to provider about other options instead of adding  major mood swings to the problems that are already at hand.

I was on propanolol for one night last week at 60mg.  It gave me an irregular heartbeat so I didn't even take another dose.  I didn't realize it was irregular until my blood pressure monitor told me and then I took my pulse.  I knew I was feeling a little crappy but didn't realize my heart was out of whack...

I also was on propranolol for a while with no side effects.  I don't agree with banglamom in saying  the best cure is to stop taking your medicine.  Some medicines can have side effects at first that wear off after you've been on them for a month or so.  You always have to weigh the benefits of what symptom your med is helping/side effects

How much propranolol are you on?  I have been on it for more than a decade and never really noticed any problems.  Any medication has a huge realm of possible side effects.  If you weren't this way before, ask your md to try another beta-blocker.  There are lots of choices.  It depends to a certain extent WHY you are taking it as to what are the other reasonable choices.  Good luck, sometimes the best cure is simply stopping taking a
medicine that is turning you inside out.
