Sinus Tachycardia and Pregnancy

I am 24 and have been diagnosed with sinus tachycardia.  I am pregnant and my symptoms are there all the time.  Before I got pregnant the symptoms were there just not as often and I have been told that it would go back to the way it was before after i have my baby.  But I have also been told that this means that I will not be able to drink alcohol ever again and will have to monitor my caffein intake very carefully.  The cardiologist has said that medication is not suitable long term because of my age and if I dont adjust my lifestyle appropriately it will result in surgery.

I didnt actually realise that this condition is dangerous? Is surgery really necessary because I dont want to live my life worrying about my heart and feel that maybe surgery would be better than having to readjust my entire life?  Is this likely to affect my ability to carry a third child.  With my first it was there but not too bad, this time its awfull will it just get worse?

Tachycardia occurs because of rapid firing by the SA node (source of electrical impulse for heartbeat) and is termed sinus tachycardia. According to your posted remarks your sinus tachycardia (fast heart rate) is a normal heart that responds appropriately stress and stimulation (i.e. caffeine, drugs, excitement, etc.). Apparently your doctor  has ruled out an underlying disease of the heart muscle, heart valves, and electrical system for heartbeats.

If the doctor is correct in the diagnosis, your heart is healthy but may be overly sensitive to stimulants, stress, etc.  There is medication to treat with medication, it is better that you change your lifestyle, etc. and avoid medication that in the long run may be harmful to your health.

There shouldn't be any limitations nor progress to a serious medical condition if you follow the doctor's recommendations.

Thanks for sharing, and if you have any further questions or comments you are welcome to respond.  Take care,

Ken
