You are welcome. Keep us informed, and if you have any further questions feel free to ask. I understand your concern regarding an older microwave as it may not be as tightly contained as a newer unit. I did consider that when I answered you question...I don't believe there would be a problem, but for your peace of mind have a checkup. Take care
I agree with itdood , kenkeith I have had five ICD`s since 1991. You could also call the manufacture of your device it should be a toll free number and see what they suggest.
Thank u 4 ur comment. I do concur, bur remember my micro is 23 yrs old. I m going to my cardio but needed new referral from primary doc, according to Medicare rules. I will keep you ideas in my head and remember how kind and thoughtful u were. By the way r u in the field of medicine, either student, intern or doc.
Your agreement is welcomed!
I don't think 5 seconds would be enough to do anything but you should get in to see your cardio so they can interrogate the ICD and check for any tissue damage around the pocket.
As a general rule, all electronic equipment is safe to use for patients with an ICD if kept at relative small distance from the unit. Most electronic equipment such as cellphones, microwave. Devices that generate radio waves or radio interference should be kept at least 15 centimetres (6 in) from the ICD.
Due to your swollen tissue around the pacemaker, it may be wise to see your doctor. If there was exposture to device, the magnetive force, if relevant, good have reset the parameters and the timing, etc.and may need to be reprogrammed.
