Hello,
I am a 29 year old female with a family history of HCM from my father's side. My father got tested in 2014 and was negative, myself and my 27 year old brother recently got tested through echo and ekg, and all was normal so far, we don't have any sign of HCM.
My father's IVSd was 0.8cm (done at the same facility as us but not sure if the technician was the same one), me and my brother did it this year and out IVSd was 0.9cm.
I can't help but worry that this measurement is too high for our age, especially myself since I know that usually men have a thicker IVS than women. Is a 0.9cm left ventricle septum (m mode measurement) common in a female of my age ? or is it considered on the high side ?
My brother's report also mentioned sigmoid septum but not hypertrophy or obstruction. I was worried because when I read, it mentioned that sigmoid septum is common in older people and a normal result of aging. Doctor said its nothing, and perhaps due to him being a heavy smoker and involved in weight lifting and taking pre-workout supplements. Could these really affect the shape of his left ventricle wall and make it sigmoid ?
