What happend to me today?

i am posting this in the heart disease section althrough i am not sure the cause of what is wrong with me. i have a feeling it has to do with my heart since it's something i was told to get checked out a while back. i am an 18 year old female. today i had been sitting down talking on the phone, and i hadn't been exercising or doing anything near the time that this happened. suddenly it felt like there was a no oxygen in any of my muscles, the same kind of feeling you get from over-exercising. i started to breathe more quickly, althrough i didn't have any tightness in my chest or real difficulty breathing. it bascially felt as though i was breathing normally, but like the oxygen wasn't circulating to any part of my body. i felt light headed like i would pass out, and both arm and legs felt weak and shakey, i could barely stand up at all. i felt very very ill and had to lie down, and it took me a good 10 minutes at least to feel like i could get up and walk around. what exactly happened to me today? is this some heart related problem?

hmm it is very possible it was an panic attack. the symptoms you described are basically what happened to me. it happened so suddenly and out of nowhere that it freaked me out. the only reason i worry still is because i feel so tired and weak since this has happened.

i hope that i am not pregnant, although i don't think it's a possibility since i have been bleeding (it's irregular bleeding but i'm sure that because i just went on the pill) although i'll admit this possibility crossed my mind. i really really hope this isn't what the problem is :(

hi, from what you described (although i am not a doctor) to me it sounds like you had some form of a panic attack. I say this as i suffer from them, and without any warning they usual just come on as you described. I could be just lying down in bed and suddenly i feel like i can't breathe, light headed, very dizzy as if i'm going to pass out, and if i get a bad one i feel like i'm going to swallow my tongue! The first time this happened to me i was so scared, didn't know what was going on, and i didn't actually do anything about it until 2 yrs. later when i had my first very bad one, and i went to my local a&e department. They confirmed after loads of tests that it was panic attacks and i felt huge relief as i finally new what was wrong. Now when i have one, i just keep it in my mind that i will be fine, and breathe as slowly and deeply as i can until it passes, usually around 10 mins later. As i said i'm not a doctor but i hope you found this in some way helpful. But you should go along to your doctor to explain to him/her what happened so you can get a professional opinion. All the best. Marykly
