mom just had quad bypass

My 78 year old mom had a quadruple bypass on Monday and I am halfway across the country wondering whether I should get back home.  Her heart rate keeps fluctuating between 40 and 150 and it stopped completely this morning but did start back on its own.  Her hands have swollen and she the pain is more in her back...  I had promised to take her to South Carolina this summer and can't do both... Is there some "normal" things to not worry about and some things that raise flags????

The heart can have rhythm problems in some people after bypass surgery, which is why they leave a wire dangling from the chest, to attach a pacemaker if necessary. In most cases this resolves itself when the heart recovers from any inflammation in the areas of grafting and usually takes three to five days. I'm sure cardiologists are watching her carefully, but haven't they spoken to you about her condition at all? whether they feel there's a more serious underlying problem or not?
