Fast Heart rate

Hi to all,

Recently I went to have key hole surgery on my knee to repare a tear on my cartliage. Pre-operation the nurse took my blood pressure which I was told was ok but she also took my heart reading twice because she said it was very high and looked a little amazed. She asked me if I was very anxious about the surgery which to be honest I was as I am a worrier. I can't remember the figure but sure it was between between 110/120. I didn't take too much notice because I knew I was nervous but since the operation I have been checking (without a machine so may not be 100% accurate) and my heart rate is always around 110 when resting.

I used to be active and played a lot of football up to about 3 months ago when I hurt my knee. Since then I have done no real exercise except to walk up and down my street. I will start exercising again when my knee has healed to get off some weight.

I am a 36 year old male with a bmi of around 29/30 so nearly at the obese figure I think.

What do you guys think? Is this way too high or normal for someone who is at the above weight and has done no or very little exercise for 3 months.

Please let me know your thoughts and many thanks

All the best

I will see how it goes (unless someone on here tells me different) and check a couple of times a day and try to relax more. I will see if I can get hold of a monitor rather then check it myself as well. If things don't change I will go to the Docs. Thanks for being a star especially this late at night! Still interested to know if weight plays a part because it's only over the last few years I seem to have put so much on.

you can have chest pain for a number of reasons hun, sometimes completely unrelated to the heart like heartburn or a chest infection, and yes anxiety about taking your pulse could well be making it faster.im the exact same,i will trawl the internet for info but i only end up even more worried than i was before!chest pain can also be related to anxiety aswell.

Thanks for the quick reply nicolette. To be honest I do get worked up and anxious over the simplist of things so not sure if this has anything to do with it. I trust this site greatly but I have a habit of surfing around (not always a good idea!) so have read up about tachycardia.I am wondering if the more I check my rate the faster it would be because I may be anxious? I occassionaly have a strange feeling in the top part of my chest but not sure if this is related. Do you think it could be a weight thing?

Thanks again for your feedback.

i think a pulse of over 100 is classed as tachycardia,so if it has been constantly over this i would go to the docs.are you still feeling anxious?do you have any other symptoms?
