Heart Palpitations

I was just laying in bed nearly asleep and then BAM I get hit with a very abrupt heart palpitation, I was told that you get palpitations caused by your anxiety, but these are really scary, it felt like my heart stopped for a quick second then it just started racing really fast and hard, I immediately went into panic mode. Why do you get palpitations? Should I go see a cardiologist, I'm so scared. The reason I have anxiety and always fear my heart is because my 4 year old just had open heart surgery 2 years ago and my Dad also passed away from heart complications. Please help. Anything helps!!!

Do you eat or drink before bed ?  may be a sign of stomach issue putting pressure on the vagus nerve, thus the palps.  anything that tightens up the upper stomach can impact the esophogus, vagus nerve etc. Any one that has anxietly, body position triggers, stomach discomfor should get scoped for hiatal hernia.  It took me years to before a doctor sent me to get scoped.  It took 3 minutes once in the office to get scoped.  I suggest googling 2 things.  1.  How to reduce stress.  2.  Hiatal hernia home treatment.  Good luck.  I hope you find the answers you are looking for.

I would definitely suggest a visit to the cardiologist.  Get a full workup and verify all is good. Palpitations are seen in most people, some people never notice them.  We are the blessed ones that feel every bleep, thud and bam.  Have you ever worn a 24 hour monitor?    A cardiologist can hopefully put your fears to rest and you can stop going into panic mode.  How long have you had them?  Most palpitations are benign and do not require treatment.    Palp's and anxiety unfornately go hand in hand.  You should find alot of support reading this forum.  Palps are so common and they drive us all crazy.  Keep reading and I am sure you will feel less anxious over them.
