Heart palpitations

I have always had heart palpitations since I was a child. Maybe 5-6 episodes a years and it would always be a couple in a row then nothing. It feels like a thump cathc to me my heart. Like my heart stops for a sec. and then slams real hard. Sometimes its more of a nuesance and toher times it hurts only a little.  When I got pregnant I started to notice I would get them more. Sometimes I would have them for an hour every 5 mins, but it would still only be a couple at a time. I went to the heart doc. and they did a ekg and a heart ultrasound. Everything came back normal and the doc. said that some people are more apt to get them than others. My mom even had them. I do have really bad anxiety and my heart always seams to be beating faster than normal around 90-100 beat per min.. I also focus on health stuff and get anxiety about it, so I know that all this doesnt help me. After giving birth I still get them and last night after drinking 5 beers I started to get them avery 5 mins. for over an hour. Question is, should I be concerned?

I get these things as well.   I usually get them in bouts where I will get several a day for a few days and then go long stretches (several weeks) without getting any.   My daughter gets them as well, she recently started getting them literally every few seconds all day long every day.  In both cases, mine and her's, we've been told that they are benign and nothing to worry about.

There are things that can make them worse though, avoiding these can reduce or even eliminate the pvc's for many people.   Caffeine and alcohol can make them worse.   Many people eliminate their palps just by cutting those two things out of their diets completely.    Well worth it if the palps are really bothering you.   Anxiety can also make them worse, it sounds like you struggle with anxiety alot.   Treating the underlying anxiety can obviously help ease the palps.   It's amazing the difference that some simple lifestyle changes can make for many people that suffer with this.

"...last night after drinking 5 beers I started to get them avery 5 mins. for over an hour"

5 beers?  Think that might make things worse?

Alcohol will do it in those who get tPVCs.  A bad lifestyle will do it.  Worry will do it.  But having worn a Holter monitor that showed I get almost 4900 of these per day, I have to note that you're really not in a bad way, not so long as you take care of yourself from now on.

Live sensibly and don't obsess about your heart.  Can you do the things you like, such as walking, cooking, dressing yourself, going up and down stairs, living in general?  If you can, you are OK.  The big problem is anxiety, and that's what most of us have to address.

My hear is always beating fast to but when I rest it goes down unless I focus on it. Another OCD of mine if my heart beats and such. So I think my heart rate is normal

hey there hun. I just ran across your posting. I read it and couldn't help but say to myself that I have the same exact problems. We are not alone and do not worry yourself about it. Just keep in your head that you won't die from it. I have had it for the past year and a half. I am 41 now and first episodes happened a month after I turned 40. I went to the doctors as you did and have ven drove myself to the ER. Then to hear that I am fine that it's a normal thing. O.o Yeah right. Lets see them have these and see what they say and how they react. ^.^

But I am testing something at the moment. I herd that Magnesium is something that helps this. I had been putting it off for some time now and though well tonight dang it I am gonna try it. ^.~ I'll keep ya posted on my findings and if it works I will do a cartwheel. ^.^ But They also told me that I have a rapid heart beat and that it never slows down. I work so exercise is no problem there. I don't have a slow kinda of job. I work in a Convenience Store. Been there for almost a year. I have to work hard and move fast and well always moving fast. lol

I had to wear the monitor once for a month and the second time for a week. They looked at the results and both times said that they didn't see anything life threatening. But they didn't like the fast beats all the time. I was very over weight about 5 or so years ago. I have lost a lot of weight since then and that is another thing that worried them.Heck I am happy about it. lol But the feelings of the "skipped beats and rush of blood to my head my face feeling like I was in the sun and then my chest felt like I was excited but not. So I thought maybe it is panic attaches or something like it. I now still have these things and I know what a panic attach feels like and this is no panic attach. Plus I know how to control those. Rubbing  my left side of the neck on the artery then learning to breath as well helps.

The rubbing of the artery works the best. Brings my heart rate down fast and I am fine. Plus I tell myself to be have and not worry about that it's not life threatening. The skipped beats though hahaha yeah that doesn't work with those. They are way worse than that and I can't just rub my heart and hope it stops that. lol So I don't drink caffeine or eat anything that may have it in it. I keep myself from stressing out over stuff as much. That is my hardest thing. I am what they refer to as a worry wart. lol I love to help people with their problems and take them in as if they were my own. That is a number one mistake I know cause I have enough problems of my own. xD

But back to the Magnesium. I took my first try at it tonight and am taking videos for that you tube site and hope I can help others see if it really works for us out here that have the PVCs and rapid hearts. I was diagnosed with "heart murr murrs" "Palpitations" "skipped beats" whatever others call them. Since I was a teen 18 I do believe. Told that 80% of the world has them. I don't think so cause then everyone would be depressed more. I also at that date was told I have reflux as well. But when I turned 40 I had such a bad set of them that they didn't calm down til morning at the ER. I was having them one behind the other. I had drank 2 swallows of wine and then went to my room not feeling right. I sat on the bed and thats when they hit so bad. The second time I had them I rushed myself to the ER and passed out on the nurses desk. lol

They tried everything and the male nurse stayed beside me holding my hand and watching the monitor. lol I even told him to stop looking at it cause he was scaring me. He told me that he was seeing something and he needed to find the doctor and have him take a look at it. Thats when they saw the rapid heart beats that were irregular.  They ended up that time keeping me over night. I was calm and he told me later that he was worried because I was calm and if it were the worry of the palpitations he wouldn't have worried about it but seeing how I was calm and laying down but uprighted in the bed. That was concern enough. I was told to go to a Cardiologist the next day. I did what a waste of time. lol Now I can't go to a Heart doctor because I have a bill with them for 5,000 dollars. : /

Now I am on my own and hoping for the best with the magnesium. All it is ,is a mineral that your body needs and has in it already. But we don't have it in most food now days so we should and was told that we should take it to replenish it if nothing else. So even if nothing comes from it I will probably still take it. It's good for so many things. Even people that have terets (sp) and speech problems like stuttering. Good for so many other things. Even menstrual cramps and migraines, even warts. lol so many things. Look it up and you be the judge if you would want to try it as well. I am just throwing that in the pot for ya. But nerve pills did help me and still do when I have them. I don't like taking that stuff and that is why I am trying this instead. I hope I haven't bored ya. lol I am a talker. ~Patty

I would def get your anxiety & stress under control because they can cause surges of adrenaline and other problems.  Sometimes alcohol, meds or drugs may cause some symptoms and if you search on MH here you'll find that's when many first noticed their arrythmia's started.

I do know that alcohol dehydrates your body, and that's a major thing with some arrythmia suffereres [sp] sorry brain fog here can't spell lol - so you may want to watch your alcohol content and make sure you drink water after or if you feel them start.

If you're still having problems or notice without anything going on they get more frequent, you may want to revisit the cardiologist to check them (always get a copy of your test results when you have things done)

There's lots of us who suffer different types and quanity of these dreaded things and some we can control; others we can't and have to learn how to cope and deal with them.

hope you feel better
