I am so scared that I will I go into Cardiac Arrest?!

So I just recently started running again and I am slightly overweight (5'11 188 lbs). Today I went running for about 4 miles and felt pretty out of breath by the end and when I finished for a few seconds my chest felt a slight little bit of pain and still a little bit from time to time. It is not exclusively near my heart or on the left side but my heart is beating pretty fast. Is this normal for someone who has not ran that much in a while and is out of shape. I am 18 and also have very bad anxiety and got my heart checked about two weeks ago with a GP and got an EKG/ECG that came back normal as well as bloodwork. Should I be worried? I am not having trouble breathing or anything but I am very worried please help me out thanks!

Hello~The muscle pain you are having could very well be due to running again after not doing it for a long time. You could have some stiff joints and muscles and running is causing the pain to act up. The heart would naturally pound as your body is not use that type of exercise anymore, so, yes, the fast beating heart is very normal.  The heart would beat faster anyway as the body is using up oxygen.

The fact that your pains last only seconds is reassuring, normally, heart attack pains last and get progressively worse. The pain could also be due to being uptight and worried over having the pain, thus, causing a chain-reaction so-to-speak.

I don't think you have a thing to worry about, your tests are all good, and your doctor seems pleased as well. If you are really worried, however, then ask for a stress test, this way, if your do get those feelings, the tech will be right there and will be able to reassure you that all is well.

I hope you feel better soon. God bless you.

The biggest fear is the unknown, recommend nuclear stress test if possible.

Normal to feel discomfort after exercise.

Only way to feel confident is to get stress tested though.

But no, you should not be scared. Given your normal resting ECG and age the probability of sudden cardiac death is extremely low.
