Thanx for the suggestion, I will check it out.
sounds like a compensatory pause common in pvc pac...feels awful but common google heart compensatory pause in pvc
It sure does feel like you will die from that longer pause. I hate it. Sometimes I get it without it triggering the svt so I know what your talking about too.
Jodie
I had an ablation almost 2 months ago for SVt. Since then I've had 3 episodes like the one you described. I couldn't have described it more clearly than you did. I had that empty feeling in my throat like the blood wasn't going to my head and things were getting dim. The first time it happened I was laying in bed dozing off to sleep and and I quickly sat up in bed and grabbed my husband's arm and told him my heart stopped beating. It was soooo scary. I saw my ep afterward and he said it was a PAC and I wouldn't die from it but when it's happening it sure feels like it. I've had PACs for a long time and I know they are what precedes the SVT. So before I had the ablation it was the PAC with the long pause that then went into SVT. Now that the extra pathway is ablated, the PAC reacts differently.
Thanx Jodie- it did scare all heck outta me! I thought that was it. Sudden death syndrome... I thought maybe it was due to the absolutely CRAZY heat we've been having ( hasn't been below 100 with a heat index of 115 for more than a week ). Or maybe something to do with my period ( yes I still get that joy at 53 years old! ) Or even my thyroid issues. I'm not sure why it happened but I'm glad I'm not the only one it happens to ( gee that came out sounding selfish ) but you know what I mean. :)
Hi Ellli,
Those are the worst. I have the same thing and fortunately it only happens a few times a year. My heart will skip (probably a pac) and stop for at least 3 seconds. Then it kickstarts into that PAT at 220 bpm for a few seconds or a few minutes. Once it happened long enough for me to get to the ER to get diagnosed. I was told that I probably had a pac, that traveled down some other pathway (hence the pause) , then that triggered the PAT.
I never feel faint, buit it does feel like the blood just goes away and time stands still.
