Postponing Surgery

I don't have a question but am writing to let those who have been supporting me know that I have postponed the surgery that was scheduled for 11/13/12. I was to have a Bilateral Thoracoscopic Mini-Maze. I had 2 episodes this past week and knew they were related to stress and anxiety about the surgery. I just stepped back and reevaluated the whole thing. In the past 9 months, I've had 2 ablations, numerous cardioversions, and missed over a month of work. Emotionally, I was really feeling the trauma and stress of all this medical probing and poking. I talked to my counselor who encouraged me to get on a low dose anti-anxiety medication to relax. I feel much better, am sleeping better, and even when I feel upset, my heart rate is remaining stable.
Not sure where this will go, but it was time to look at this another way. The surgery will still be there if and when I'm ready.
Thanks for all the support!

Thank you for your supportive replies. Yes, I've heard that yoga can really cut down on afib episode. I have been looking for a studio and found one near my house. I continue to struggle with anxiety but it's getting a little better.
I have learned to not act strong all the time because, like me, one day it will all collapse on you and you will feel the pain and fear you were denying.
Wishing you all the best and continue to hear how you are all doing.

I am doing pretty well the last few days -- more good days than bad.  Thanks for asking.  While I was reading your post regarding anxiety, I remembered reading that people who practice yoga for relaxation have been able to cut their afib episodes in half.  I know during the recent election debates and news, I was highly agitated but couldn't look away, and my heart rate, blood pressure and stress level were off the charts!  Maybe if we can keep calm, that's half the battle :)  (((Hugs)))

Like Dawn said, if you are feeling apprehensive then by all means postpone.  Considering you have already had  2 ablations done within a years time it might be prudent to give your heart a bit of time to rest as well as your nerves.  Going through one was traumatic enough for me.  You have been through a lot.  I wish you much needed rest and calm.  Stay strong and breath deep.  Take care.

Thank you! I am hoping the anxiety meds will cut the stress my body is absorbing, thus, fewer episodes! Will let you know.
How are you doing? Please keep in touch too.

I think Michelle has addressed this kind of thing very well.  If you're not feeling comfortable with it, it can wait.  Glad to hear your anxiety meds are working.  Keep us posted on how it's going.  Hang in there!
