Strange heart rhythms!

Greetings,
I am a 36 year old male. In the past, I have had tachychardias and irregular heart beats. All the exams I had -EKG, heart ultrasound, fatigue tests (please forgive me If I am not using the right terms as English is not my mother language)- were normal. All doctors suggested that all these were due to stress. During a 12 year period I've had both normal periods and irregular beats periods which were rarely wοrrying as I tend to ignore them after all these years and many many exams. Anyway the last doctor, about a year ago, recommended that I should take sth for the stress.

Anyway, it's been a few weeks that every time I rest at bed, I feel heart palpitations. The palpitations are either normal or moderately rapid, but what worries me most is that sometimes I feel just below my neck very rapid heart beats -like 200 at least- while when I count my heart beats in the normal way -ie feeling the beats at my left hand- they are almost normal (eg 70 and in a few occasions up to 90 or 100 but nothing like 200 or 300!). In other words I feel very fast heart beats at the upper side of my chest, just below my neck, while at the rest of my chest and at my hand the beats are normal!.
Having heard about atrial fibrillation, I am a bit worried about that! Could it be that I have it? Would I have symptoms like these? I have no other symptoms like irregular beats etc. I have gained some weight recently and I am overweight and the only medication I take regularly this period is Lamisil (terbinafine HCL) for nail fungus. I do get about 20 mgr of propanolol from time to time in order to avoid the palpitations effect or some valerian extracts pills.
Any ideas of what might be wrong?

My troubles showed they're ugliness at night also. Two years ago i was fine. Then one night, right on the edge of sleep, my heart began to race as if someone scared me. It would do this several times, every night, before letting me fall asleep. It got to where i was scared of bedtime. None of the dr.'s i would tell these symptoms to had ever heard of such a thing. Long story short, this went on for six months or so until i woke up at 5:30 in the morning with the worst feeling in my chest as if my heart was participating in the nascar 500 with two flat tires and a drunk driver. Rushed to the ER where they were able to catch my heart in a-fib on ekg. That day changed my life. A-fib is hell to live with. I hope you don't have it.

Your English is fine, maybe better than mine.  Some are just gifted with languages it seems.

The only thought that came to my mind was atrial fibrillation or flutter.  I do not know it the symptoms you describe fit or not.  I have a very hard time feeling my pulse, and I do have AFib.  Now I know this doesn't offer much, but as my suggestion is simple and doesn't risk much.  I think it would be a good idea to take an aspirin a day until you can get this checked by a doctor.  If you are in AFib all the time I believe a simple EKG will show the condition.

The aspirin, best if taken with food, will offer some protection against clot formation, one of the risk factors of AFib.
