You seriously need to get ahold of your heart doctor and let him/her know. Waking up out of a sound sleep taching out is not such a great thing. You are lucky that when you wake up that it is not becoming progressive or worse on you and i agree you should be put on at least a 72 hour holter monitor so that the docs can get a grip on this situation. The thing is that you do not know what the heck is happening since you are asleep or how fast your heart rate is getting to...however if you wake up w. a pounding heart and it converts itself and calms itself down at least that is a fairly good sign however taching out is not so great...i would call the doc....
This has happened to me many times. Because your heart rate is slower during sleep, there is the opportunity for your heart to throw more ectopics which trigger the svt. This is just a guess. It is horrible but I personally would rather have an attack at home. You should discuss this with your doctor. 208 is a very high heart rate.

That is a fast rate. Do you tachy during the day? I have SVT's several times a week, so I know how scary it can be. My fast rate is coming from the atria, along with premature atrial contractions, and premature ventricular contractions as well. I wore it for 30 days. It is called an Event monitor which can be worn for longer than the Holter monitor... which you wear for 24 hours. Anyway, I'm set to wear a 24 hr. monitor next month. Now he wants to see if I am getting Long QT syndrome! Ugh. The irregular beats are becoming very annoying, as well as the SVT's. I wish you luck, but as Jerry_NJ advised...see your doctor and ask him for a heart monitor. Depending on the frequency of your irregularity he may prescribe the "Event" monitor instead to catch them. Keep in touch! Joann
Can you remember any dreaming when your are awaken by the high heart rate?
Is you HR "normal" otherwise?
If you can get your doctor to prescribe a wearable heart monitor, that should help diagnose the problem.
