atenolol

hi,

for the past six months i have been having these strong, irregular heartbeats, and i was recently diagnosed with sinus tachycardia. they could not find an explanation for the other irregularities (they did not show up on the holter). i was put on atenolol 25mg morning and night, and it's been working more or less, but i still have the irregular beats. sometimes, when i take a deep breath, my heart pounds really hard once before i exhale, or sometimes when i'm walking. i am on the skinny side, but not physically fit. and i still have these instances when my heart rate goes up to 120-130 and i get really panicky about it. i feel like sometimes the atenolol is working, but then i have these little bouts of anxiety. i'm really afraid that somethings wrong, even though i'm too young (19) and the echo and ecg was normal. i was just wondering if anyone has any idea what these irregular beats can be. right now i'm worried that while the atenolol is working (my heart rate was in the 100s before, and now it's around 80) it's causing something else. i know that i'm probably over sensitive to my heart, but i feel that the only way that i could become this sensitive is because i felt something weird and not right. i'm just really nervous about it.

also, has anyone experienced birth control causing palpitations? i had my blood tested and my potassium was normal, but i have been on the pill for as long as i've had the palpitations, and i'm convinced that it's correlated.

please someone give me some information if they have any idea. thank you!

Hey there! My heart palpitations started when I was 19 as well!Since you have had an echo and ekg I wouldnt try to worry too much.Easier said then done I know! Most of us on here have pvcs(extra heartbeats). Some have over 20,000 a day!You know what their cardio said??...LIve with them!My cardio just told me the same thing!I dont get that many but he told me to dissregard them when I feel them!I am atenolol also..Ive noticed when I take a higher dose(I was on 50 mill in the morning and 50 at night, thats when I would get a lot of pvcs!!!!Now that I take 25 in the night I dont have as many, but I still get them..everyday in fact..so now im 28,almost 29.Started at 19 and Im alive and well but dont get me wrong..I still get anxiety!!!!!! I used to be on the pill but I cant say if there is any correlation between irregular heart beats and that because I had them with the pill and I still have them!!!!If you dont feel assured maybe you should get a second oppinion, theres nothing wrong in doing so:)

oh, and i forgot to add. i sometimes have some chest pain, like on the left side and sometimes in this one spot near my breast bone? it's usually sharp, like a pin, and it comes and goes. i was wondering if this is a side effect of atenolol, or maybe something else?? thank you!
