betablockers and beaus lines in fingernails?

I am hoping somebody here can answer my question. I take a betablocker for tachycardia. My heart rate now runs in 40s to 60s which cardiologist says is okay.
I developed horizontal lines or indentations in 2 fingernails. No injury. My Dr called them Beaus lines. He says I was either exposed to a toxin of some sort or they can be a result of a systemic disease. He seemed very unconcerned. In my reading betablockers pop up as a possible cause. My question is if the betablocker caused them does that mean it is harming me?
I went to my pharmacy and he said only if your heartrates slow. I told him it now runs very low and my cardiologist and electrophysilogist think that's fine. He just basically walked off. I just want to be sure I am not hurting myself with the betablocker.
I know this is probably clear,as mud but hopefully someone can tell me as I know many if you take betablockers.

Hi

I know it has been a while since your post. I also have these horizontal lines in all my fingernails. They are worse in my thumbs and big toes, and get less deep towards my little fingers and toes. I also take a beta blocker for tachycardia, although a very small dose. I also have a lot of unresolved health issues and am still under investigation. I too wonder if this is because of my beta blockers, or because of an underlying medical condition.

Tom,
Thank you for your response and the web link. Except for the fact they look awful and one I think is going to make part of my nail come off I wasn't too worried as my Dr seemed unconcerned. Then after my pharmacists remark regarding my low heartrate I became concerned possibly my hearts being damaged. I feel better now. Thank you.

Beau's lines can be caused by a number of things, from a common cold, to systemic illnesses, and yes, beta blockers.  During the five or six years that I've taken the same beta blocker at different strengths, I have occasionally experienced a Beau's line in one or two fingernails.  Wikipedia.org has a good write up on Beau's lines.
