consequences of missing betablocker dose

I am on 4 Meds for hypertension. One is a betablocker for my tachycardia. I have autonomic dysfunction which causes syncope. My question is this- if u get the stomach virus for example and can't take or keep this down what are the consequences? I noticed my rx handout says do not miss a dose must taper down which I understand but if u are ill what choice do u have? I asked my.pharmacist what would happen and her response was u better hope it doesn't. The stomach virus is rampant in our area right now and I am very concerned.
I know many of ur on betablockers so advice please. Thank u.

Thank u for your response. I feel better as the pharmacists remark really scared me and I wasn't sure what to expect. Am hoping the virus misses me but u never know. I take metotoprol 25 mg twice a day. I think it causes me to have more vivid dreams.

You've got the standard information.  For my experience, taking 50 mg of Metoprolol each day (slow release) I forgot to take it in the morning a few days back, so I just returned to the normal the next day.  I'd think if you can't keep your medication down for more than a day or two you need to discuss with your doctor.  Try taking the meds when you are the least likely to lose them.

Again, in my experience, I have gone form 100 mg of BB twice a day to none stepping down over a period of about a week.  The only thing I could detect was a higher HR.   That's the reason I take BB.  I was testing to see what affect lower to none had on my trouble dreaming.  Nothing changed.
