I took a sleep study. I was wired up and observed throughout the night. My particular case was extremely simple to diagnose becasue it was so severe. I was prefitted with a couple of masks before going to sleep. Around 2AM, I was wakened long enough to place the pre-slected mask on and quickly fell back to sleep. By 7AM I had been "titrated" to a particular pressure (very low, fortunately) and sent home. I received my CPAP equipment about 2 weeks later. I wear it religiously and feel great now. Hope that helps.
how do you find out if you have sleep apnea i have wondered about that--my heart pounding starts as soon as i lay down usually and keeps me from falling asleep,,but at times i wake up like i have been holding my breath not often but at times,
Tom, thanks. I think u did it right. My ep and cardiologist say never to just stop it all at once. I would like to back off my dosage a little though. Just really dont care for heartrate in 40s but actually is better than the tachycardia. Again hope your ablation procedure goes well.
I received conflicting orders from the EP and cardiologist. The EP said to just stop it 3 days prior to my appointment. My cardiologist said to back off slowly. I chose that latter route backing off slowly from 100mg/day to half that, then a quarter that, then one eighth that for only one day before ceasing it totally. I did this over a period of 9 days or so (see my journel for more). So it really hasn't been too bad. I had and SVT last night, but I was overdue for one anyway/
Tom, how long did u take to wean off it? Good luck with your procedure.
I've been off Metoprolol for 3 days in preparation for tomorrow's ablation procedure. My resting heart rate has bounced from 60 or so up to my formerly normal 82 to 85. I'M FEELING WIRED!!! ....like I've had a 6 pack of Coke, and box of Hershey Bars!
I take metoprolol for.tachycardia and autonomic dysfunction. I take 25 mg twice daily. It has helped a lot although keeps.heartrate in 40s to 60s which feels so slow. My cardiologist says it is safe to have beat that slow but am hoping he decreases dose some next visit.
I recommend u try it. It most likely will help u a lot.
...I forgot to mention. One of the classis side effects of Metoprolol is bradycardia. My dosage slowed resting pulse down into the low 60's. I find that it takes a little more time to warm up during physical activity, but once your heart is up to speed, it's fine.
Metoprolol had been around for many years and is a very common medication. I've been on 100mg for nearly 4 years. I began taking it, not for my arrhythmia or high blood pressure, but to slow my heart down which would pound during the night. This was a classic case of misdiagnosis as my heart was pounding to keep me alive. I had undiagnosed sleep apnea and my O2 levels were dangerously low. I've continued to take it as it helps me with my PVCs and SVT events. It's been an excellent medication for me and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
