new med question

i was prescribed ranolazine (Ranexa EQ) 500 mg twice a day by a cardiologist to try to eliminate some of the pvcs.
has anyone heard about this med, or had any experience with it. he said it was a pretty benign med that one of the side effects is eliminating some of the pvcs.

thanks

When you are on the reply that you consider your "best answer" just look on the bottom (left side I think) and you should find a "check box" for best answer, just check it.

Here is a study addressing your question.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24533675

"CONCLUSIONS:
Although not approved for this indication, ranolazine appears effective for symptomatic ventricular arrhythmias. The reduction in PVC burden was greatest among individuals with reduced ventricular function, perhaps due to enhanced late sodium current associated with cardiomyopathy. A confirmatory prospective trial seems warranted."

It appears to be a medication approved for relief of angina. Though its use in reducing PVCs would be Off-label, many medications are successfully used that way, such as using BetaBlockers against PVCs (I didn't know such use of BetaBlockers was Off-Label, just learned that from reading a post on Medhelp).

Hope this helps.

In case you didn't do a search, see:

Ranolazine is a new one for me, don't remember ever hearing of it.
