Hi Sally,
My heart missed every third beat so I went to the doctor.Had the usual checks etc and I have atrial fibrillation. That is controlled by drugs.
It may not be serious what you have but if I were you I would go to my doctor for tests just to make sure. It will put your mind at rest.

My doctor told me that skipped or extra beats are very normal and nearly everyone has them.  He did say, however, that most people don't even know they are happening.  Even though what you are experiencing is likely to be entirely normal, you might want to talk with your doctor.

Hey Sally,

I am 37 and have had these awful skipped beats and flutters for many years now. Palpitations are when your heart seems to get out of whack and flutter or has an extra beat. I get them alot right before I mensutrate, and sometimes they just come out of the blue.  They say that Hormones and sometimes Thyroid problems can be assoiciated with these.  Have you been to your doctor and told him about these?  There isn't much that they will do except send you to get a holster monitor.  I have worn this thing several times and also have been to the ER due to symptoms of thinking I was dying(lord seems crazy now). All that money I spent in the ER and they find nothing!  My doc told me that it was panic attacks, I don't think they are associated with that, atleast from my point of view.  You have to push your doctor to tell you what is wrong, remember you are the one paying him to do his job not the other way around.  I would atleast try that first and see what happens.  Also do you find that they are worse right before your period?  What pains do you have and where r they when you have the "skipped beats"?  You may have to see a cardiologist and have some test to rule everything "Bad" out and go from what he/she tells you.  Most of us on this sight have been dealing with these problems for many years, so try not to let this get you down, hold your head up even when you think you can't.  I will not lie and say it isn't scary because IT IS!!  Everytime I get an attack of sorts I get all bent out of shape and think I can't go on, but guess what I have and so have the others.  I hope this is some comfort to you knowing your not alone in this.  I have really enjoyed the interaction that this site has and just for me knowing I am not alone helps out tremdously!  :~)
